Domestic Violence Resources in North Carolina

Last updated September 5, 2026

If you or someone you love is experiencing domestic violence in North Carolina, help is available right now. The National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) is free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day in multiple languages. Advocates can help you safety-plan, locate local shelter, and connect you with legal options—whether you are ready to leave or still figuring out your next step.

North Carolina has a network of local domestic violence programs coordinated statewide through the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV). These member programs offer emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and transitional housing across all 100 counties. Because shelter availability changes daily, calling the National Hotline or dialing 2-1-1 (North Carolina's free information and referral line) is the fastest way to find an open bed near you.

Leaving a dangerous situation often raises urgent practical questions about money, housing, food, and children. North Carolina's public benefit programs—including Medicaid, SNAP, and the state's child welfare system under the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS)—have provisions that can help survivors access services quickly, even without a permanent address. A local domestic violence advocate can help you apply for these benefits and understand your rights.
