Child & Family Assistance Resources in Oregon
Last updated September 6, 2026
Oregon families facing hardship have access to a range of state and federally funded programs covering basic needs like food, housing, healthcare, and childcare. The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is the primary state agency overseeing child welfare, cash assistance, food benefits, and services for families in crisis. Most programs have income-based eligibility, and many can be applied for in a single visit to your local ODHS office or online through the ONE (Oregon Eligibility) system at one.oregon.gov.
If you're not sure where to start, calling or texting 2-1-1 (Oregon 211) is one of the most effective first steps. Oregon 211 connects residents to local community resources including emergency rent and utility help, food pantries, childcare subsidies, mental health services, and more — 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Spanish-language support and other language services are available.
Navigating multiple programs at once can feel overwhelming. Social workers and case managers can assist families in applying for several benefits simultaneously. If a child's safety is at immediate risk, ODHS Child Welfare operates a 24-hour statewide hotline you can call to make a report or request emergency assistance.
